Harper had gone out to get her little sister some flowers when she noticed Marietta eyeing the greenhouses. Since she was all alone, and she'd grown up in a very music-oriented household, she'd started singing a song that her mom's friend Gabe had taught her years before.
"...She said, "Boy, can I tell you a terrible thing? It seems that I'm sick, and I've only got weeks. Please don't be sad, now, I really believe you were the greatest thing that ever happened to me," she sang as she re-entered the school.
She adjusted her hold on the flowers in her arms as she walked. It was a bouquet, blue cornflowers for Germany, yellow roses for Ireland (since the actual national flower of Ireland would have looked silly) and irises because they usually left them on their mom's grave after church on Sundays. It was a pretty bunch of flowers; she hoped that Etta liked it.
She hummed the instrumental of the song softly and looked around, trying to remember where Etta usually hung out.

Mikael walked through the entrance hall. His guitar was on his back, and he was headed down to the Hufflepuff common room, there was nothing else to do. He didn't want to bother Eliza but he didn't want to not go talk to her, he didn't know why though. He looked around and spotted yellow flowers which reminded him of home, his family, and his sisters favorite color. He looked at the girl who was holding the flowers, she looked vaguely framilliar but figured his guess was wrong. Although she looked like his twin sister slightly he knew it wasn't her, she was a Slythein this girl had on Ravenclaw robes.
He caught the slightest sound of her singing, and he pulled his guitar over to be in front of him and started playing. It was a kids song from a movie he watched with his mother not long ago. But the song was quite lively and he was going to play it for his kids if he ever had any. He wanted them to know what it was like to grow up as a kid in the late 1900s when all you had was a cheap guitar, your voice and your family to entertain yourself. He'd always have his family dancing while he played and sang, but those were times when his whole family was all about being together.

She stopped singing and looked up startled when she heard a guitar playing. She'd been so sure that she was alone; the guitarist must have just...shown..up...oh, Gott. It was her dad. Unlike her sister, she'd been good at avoiding her parents completely. She didn't want to do or say something stupid and wind up causing herself to have never been born or something. It was just her luck that she ran into the wrong Liven while looking for her little sister...
"Um...hallo!" she called. "You play guitar really well!"
She winced at her accent. It was most definitely German, she'd always taken more after her mother in that regard, but there was a distinctly Irish lilt to her voice that only got worse when she was anxious. She hated it; it was one of her most distinguishing features. It had almost gotten her killed a few times before she learned to alter her voice with music.

Mikael kept playing and started toward her, "Hi, I'm Mikael. And you are?" He wasn't very formal but he was a gentleman and he always looked people in the eye, and made sure he was polite. The lively tune was starting to draw a few people over to the sound. He smiled at everyone and invited a first year girl to come dance. He looked back at the girl, "Feel like singing or dancing with the crowd?"
He kept smiling as a few more people broke through the crowd to dance to the song. Even a few Slytherin stundents were dancing and laughing with a few people. Music could really draw people together it seemed. He didn't want to stop playing, it would mean that others wouldn't have a mind to be nice to each other.

"Harper Edelstein," she replied instinctively, drawing back a little when a crowd started to form. She didn't like crowds and didn't want her sister's flowers to get crushed. Marietta might break into the greenhouses if that happened, and Harper had promised to keep her little sister out of trouble. It had been one of her mother's final requests that they look out for each other. She'd be damned if she let Marietta get herself hurt.
"If it's all the same, I don't think I will," she mumbled in response to him askig if she would sing or dance. "I got these flowers for my little sister, and I don't want them to get crushed."
She watched her dad out of the corner of her eye. He didn't seem very different from how he'd been when she and Marietta were growing up, before Harper's Mutti had died. She wondered if she should warn him that Eliza would up and die on him one day, but squashed the thought. Who knew what shed change if she did that?

The song started to fade as Mikael slowed to a stop. He looked at all the people dancing, "Sorry guys, miss Harper doesn't seem to like crowds much, I'll be in the basement later if anyone wants to come again." he smiled as the crowd dispersed. He turned back to Harper, "Your sister? What house is she in?" he asked. Harper didn't look like any of the girls in the fifth year Hufflepuffs, maybe she was more than a year younger.
"I could help you find her if you like?" Mikael said.

She waited, feeling a little guilty, as the crowd dispersed. She didn't know how, even more than a decade before she would be conceived, her dad could still read her so well. It seemed horribly unfair that she still couldn't escape her father's knowing blue eyes. Why couldn't he be less perceptive...? Her mutti had been just as bad; it was something that Eliza had blamed on being a child spy.
"My sister's name is Marietta Edelstein; she's in your House, a fourth year," she explained. "It would be great if you could help me find her."
She offered him a smile, or at least attempted to. She wasn't good at being reassuring, at all, except to Jake and Etta. As for anyone else, she just wasn't good with people.

Mikael smiled, "Doesn't matter, crowds aren't hard to form when you've got a guitar." he shrugged and thought.
"Does she look like you? Because I don't think I've seen anyone who does around the common room." he asked, "I can get you in the Hufflepuff common room but you'll have to change into different robes."
He chuckled, he wasn't usually good at reading people but he could read her like a book almost.

She considered the question. She'd never paid much attention to it, but she supposed that Marietta really didn't look much like her. Lookwise, blue-eyed, blonde-haired Harper took more after their dad in terms of physical appearance. Marietta looked more like Mutti, she guessed.
"Nein," she finally decided. "She doesn't look much like me. Similar face, I guess, but she has really curly red-brownish hair und hazel eyes. We have similar accents, but hers leans more towards Irish than mine. She's more like our vatti in that regard."
She looked down at her robes and wondered if she could just hide the Ravenclaw emblem and her blue tie with the flowers.

"Hmm, oh well, guess we'll have to go on your description.." Mikael shrugged. He put the guitar on his back and furrowed his brow thinking. How could she pass as a Hufflepuff with out getting caught.
"Your guys are German and Irish? Jeeze what kind of family do you have going?" He asked laughing. "So your father is Irish? And your mother is German? So you look like your dad and she looks like your mum?"

"Nein. Mutti wasn't German; she was Prussian," she corrected him. "But ja, mein vatti is Irish. He and Mutti met while they were in school. We lived in England for most of mein life, though. Mutti said it was because they had too many friends that lived in England. Und, ja, Marietta looks more like Mutti than I do. Her luck, I guess. Mutti was pretty."
Even if Eliza had always laughed off compliments, Harper thought she'd been pretty. She just hadn't told her Mutti so because Eliza would have given her that wry look of hers and shrugged it off.

"I can never tell the difference.." Mikael shrugged, "Sounds a lot like the girl I like.. That's a different story, not getting into it! She's somthin' though.. So your sister looks like you mum, any specifics other than really curly red hair and hazel eyes..?"

'Well, if Mutti didn't sound like herself, I'd be worried,' she noted silently.
"Prussians are taller," she mumbled robotically. She got really tired of telling people that.
"Besides the red hair and eyes...she's short. Und pale. As for Mutti, it's just a coincidence that she sounds like your friend. Mutti died two years ago," she explained. "She got really sick and never recovered. Vatti wasn't the same afterward."

"Oh, I'm Irish I don't know the difference between someone from Brooklyn and someone from Manhattan." Mikael shrugged.
"Short and pale.. how short we talking? Like first year short or third year short?" He asked, always good to get information. "Oh.. um... sorry, I didn't mean to strike a cord.."

He'd used the same excuse when she was little. Eliza had always joked that he used being Irish as an excuse instead of saying that he just didn't care. Sometimes, Harper wondered if she hadn't been right.
"Third year short, I guess," she replied. "She's kinda loud, too."
