Gio stood at the foot of the stairs of the Salla waiting for Nymphadora to show up. She'd sent him a letter recently demanding that they go out for lunch and catch up while he was back in town. Since Gio had never found an effective way of telling Tonks no and having her listen, and because he liked the girl, he'd agreed. He was curious about how things had been going for her lately, anyway.
He subtly checked his wristwatch while he waited, adjusting his hold on the yellow roses he was holding. He'd bought them as a joke. When she'd been in Hogwarts, Dora had been very fond of Gio despite him being Head of Slytherin House, and she'd given him yellow roses once towards the end of her seventh year. Apparently they symbolized friendship; she'd been in the midst of an obsession with the language of flowers at the time. Silly girl.

Tonks had been so excited to hear that her favorite teacher was back in town. She'd screamed and sent him a letter right away. Now she was going out for lunch. She'd said good bye to her parents and told Remus she'd be back soon. They seemed to be seriously worrying about her, just because her stomach was so big she seemed to be getting so much attention. She got to the Salla and saw Professor Gio. She squealed and ran to hug him.
"PROFESSOR GIO!!" She screamed. She threw her arms around him and laughed. She even felt like there was kicking in her stomach.

Gio laughed when Tonks glomped him and returned the hit with his free arm. Was she pregnant? It sure seemed that way; she'd never been one to gain any excess weight that she kept on. The bump was also far too defined to be just weight-gain, wonky seemed like Dora had married. That was lovely. Maybe Charlie Weasley? They'd been good friends in Hogwarts, as he remembered; he could see them married.
"It's very nice to see you too, Dora," he chuckled. "Married now, I see. To whom?"

Tonks grinned and kept changing her hair color. She had missed her old professor, she had always hoped he would be there to teach when she had kids. Sadly, he'd retired and hadn't heard from him since. Luckily her mother had let her off bed rest, Andromeda had known the teacher too.
"It's great to hear from you again professor. How've you been?" she asked. She couldn't help but grin when he asked who she'd married. "Well, let me say he's one of the kindest people, although he gets scared about a lot of things. Although, we've worked them out and he's now happy that we're having a child. So, who do you think it is?"
She figured he'd guess it right away, if there had never been a Remus for her to meet she probably would have eventually married Charlie but he was only rarely at the Weasley home.

He laughed at her rainbow hair and ruffled it like he had when she was eleven and wandered into Slytherin territory. She'd been lucky that he'd liked her; it was what kept his charges from tormenting her back then. They'd feared Gio, justifiably so. He'd been a terror to the Slytherins that fell afoul of his admittedly horrible temper.
"I've been fine. Working on a new book that you'd probably be horribly bored by," he teased. "And don't tell me you married Remus Lupin! He's more than a decade your senior!"

Tonks fixed her hair. Always had when he did that. She thought it was funny but didn't like it when others did it to her too. That was Gio's thing to do, no one elses. She had accidentily walked in to Slytherin Territory and had ran into the head of the House. Luckily he'd liked her, so she got off pretty well.
"My mom loves your books so we'll probably have a copy." she smiled. She couldn't hold back a laugh. Figures, who didn't ask that question. "I did marry Remus. He's like my other half, and I love him. Please don't make snide comments about it, everyone else has."

Gio had liked the kid better than almost any student he'd ever had, from day one. She'd asked to be turned into a butterfly when he threatened to throw anyone that irritated him badly out a window; that had been how Gio knew that they'd get along very well. Most of his other students had been too scared to ask anything like that; they had meekly accepted the threat and believed that he would go through with it.
"Maybe I'll sign your mother's copy, if she's such a fan," he mused. "Oh, I won't make any snide comments to your face. Now, once I get home and tell Marguerite about this, I make no promises."

"Mum makes me read them after she does so she can talk about it to someone. Sometimes it really bugs me." Tonks shook her head. "Oh, thanks! Now I know I'll be the subject of ridicule!" She laughed.
That first day she walked into Gio's classroom, she had her hair in long pink and green pigtails and everyone was kind of looking at her like she was an alien. For some reason she liked that look from people. She even had classes with her best friend, Charlie Weasley. He'd been the one in Professor Gio's class to ask what he would do when he threw them out the window. He said he'd turn all of them except Tonks into a bouncy ball and then just drop them. It was a kind of scary talk.

"Glad to know that the subjects of my books are so boring, Dora," he teased. "And you won't be the subject of ridicule as much as...prolonged and intense joking."
Dora and Charlie...they'd been model students, admittedly. Never irritated him enough to be thrown out a window, always helped him out with his written English. He'd been more than happy to help them out in their later lives. He wondered how Charlie was doing in Romania. He was working with Christoph Beilschmidt, right? Brielle's father? Ah, Brielle...Gio had been very fond of her. Pity that she'd died.

"They'd be more interesting if you didn't tell everyone that spells are nothing but science. Make it more... fantismal -is that a word?" Tonks asked the open air, then shook her head and continued, "Anyway, you could make it a fantasy and everyone would love it."
She had the feeling she was going to have to read and translate another manuscript. He always did this to her and Charlie, even when they were new to the school and didn't know any italian! Gio would sit them down and have them go over his books and translate them all.

"I think the word that you're looking for is fantastical," he corrected drily. "And magic is a science; it is a very exact and complex science. It shouldn't be treated as anything else. You aren't seriously suggesting that I turn my thesis into a science-fiction novel?"
Maybe...it would be interesting. He could always try. He had been bored lately, after all...

"Exatly! Although, I think the term Science-Fiction is a little off putting to the female side of readers. A girl sees that and thinks, 'Oh, that's for boys.' and walks away. Fantasy, now that appeals everyone." Tonks nodded. "So what if magic is science, its not a science that muggles understand. Plus, if a muggle reads one of your books, they'll discover wizardry."

"Dora, I will never turn a science into fantasy," he deadpanned. "Muggles do an excellent job of that. And I don't publish my books through a muggle company; I'm fairly certain that no mugge will ever read my work."
They probably wouldn't understand it even if they did. There were a lot of complicated formulae and long explanations. Muggles would probably get confused and throw the book away; it was deliberately like that. He wasn't stupid. He knew how muggles would react to learning the science of magic.

"I still think you should. But, when ever you need it, I'm sure I'll be able to translate your transcripts. Just so long as Theodore doesn't scream in my ear the whole time. Actually, that will be his father's job, I'm going to be sitting at a desk waiting for my next assignment! So, I'll be at perfect liberty to do it. Although, any one who bugs me might get an earful.." she bit her lip.
It had been a long time since she'd yelled at someone in Italian. It had been her seventh year at Hogwarts and a few of the fifth years were trying to say she she have been doing something other than working. After about five minutes of that, she snapped. Her hair turned bright red and she started screaming at them to leave her alone she was too busy to deal with them at the moment. Sadly, they didn't understand her when she understood herself perfectly.

"You're naming the baby after your father? Cute," he remarked with his customary dryness. "And thank you. God knows I've never done well with writing in English."
It was probably Gio's fault that Tonks was so fluent in Italian; she'd had to know it in order to help him out with the work he'd given her. He'd always had to have one or two students that knew Italian to help him translate the class assignments that he would usually write in his mother language and then translate. Severus Snape had been one of them, actually...Gio had taught the boy the language personally, like he had with Tonks.
