"Good! We'll see if you change your mind about that after you meet my family, though," she laughed. "They're kind of crazy, especially my older brother."
She was still a woman, and sometimes things like that damned giggle happened, no matter how much she wished that they didn't. Somewhere, waaaaaaaayyyyyyy deep down, she was a little bit girly. She just preferred to not acknowledge it. She wasn't the type that spent any excess of time on trying to be girly; there hadn't ever been any time.

"I'm sure I can handle them," Tristan replied with a chuckle, "I've managed to survive this long around the crazy people here."
Tristan usually didn't like the crazy people and wasn't sure if he would actually like her family, but he would give them a chance, especially since they were related to Talon. Talon was a really cool person, someone he really liked, even given they met not long ago. He could deal with the most difficult people, usually, because he had to do just that most of his life.

"Usually they're harmlessly quirky," she reassured him. "Except for my grandfather, Gio, who becomes violently annoyed with stupid people, but you're not stupid so you're fine!"
Formerly the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and (ironically) head of Slytherin House, Gio was usually pretty cool. He taught Talon a lot of funny prank-spells and spent most of his days working on his latest book (Talon had gathered that he was a world-renowned authority on the more scientific aspects of magic). When confronted with stupidity, though, he got really irritated really fast, and then he had to be looked out for.

"Not stupid at all. We should get along pretty well at least," Tristan replied with his smile still quite large on his face.
Tristan wasn't worried about not getting along with her family. Really, he could always pretend to like them, or not be annoyed by their harmless quirkiness. Tristan had a feeling that he would like them, and if they were anything like Talon, then he would most definitely like them.

"He's the only one that you really have to be worried about...my dad's off helping out with breaking the siege in Alghero, and the only thing you'd have to be worried about with him is that nasty temper of his...family trait," she admitted sheepishly. "I've got a pretty wicked one myself."
She suspected that it was because her grandmother was a Veela, and they were infamous for their tempers. She wasn't sure how they'd all wound up so damn stubborn, though she usually blamed it on her hardheaded grandfather.

"A siege in Algero?" Tristan asked slightly confused, as he knew only the rumors he had deemed true about the Curia. "I have a bit of short temper myself."
It was actually quite odd that he was a pretty good manipulator and was able to pretend to like people, but he had a little bit of a short temper, and could get quite angry. He just usually didn't show it at all. He kept it all pretty much bottled up until when he was alone when he just let it all loose. Tristan didn't know better than to bottle it up. He had to when he was a little kid.

"Si! For about three years now!" she replied then blinked. "You know that there's a massive civil war going on in my homeland, si? And that the Cavaliere are a huge part of the Curia's army? I thought that this was a known fact..."
Geez, the Westerners were right...they really didn't let much information get out. It was probably years of paranoia getting to them, but it was kind of depressing. She'd be talking to Shayne the next time she saw him...not that he'd listen to her. Shayne probably thought it was a good idea to keep the information about the Curia leaked to a minimal.

"Oh, I just thought that was a rumor," Tristan shrugged, "So that one's true?"
Tristan didn't actually care too much if there was a war going on in her home country. Don't get him wrong, he would be worried about her when she went back, if she went back, which he was sure she would at a point. It was just that there was a war here, probably not as bad, but there still was one. Tristan just saw her country being like this country, and in that manner it didn't matter, but in all other manners it did.

"Si, it's true! I was at Alghero helping out until a few months ago," she replied. "Pretty nasty battle, that one. Most of the outer city limits got wrecked."
The reason Talon was no longer in Alghero was because she'd been in the outer city limits when they got demolished. Nothing like a section of a wall falling and breaking one's leg to get their crazy dad to have them pulled from the front lines. The bone had been knitted together; she was fine, at the moment, but her dad refused to let her return to Alghero until she'd taken a few months' leave.

"Oh wow, it seems really dangerous there right now," Tristan said slightly worried now about those in Italy.
Ok so wait. When did he ever worry about others that he didn't know? Damn he was going soft! If his father was watching him now from the pits of hell, boy would he be disappointed. Well, maybe that was a good thing afterall. Tristan had never had a family to worry about. Even his best friend didn't really have a family anymore, so he didn't worry of his family either. But now here he was ever so slightly, slightly, worried about Talon's country.

"I think it's cooling off, now; hopefully we'll get everything rebuilt again. Alghero is better off than Syracuse; Syracuse damned near got burnt down four years ago," she remembered. "Rebuilding still hasn't begun."
Maybe things were dangerous back in Italy, but it didn't feel that way to Talon. She'd grown up in all of this chaos. It was all pretty much normal for her. She'd never been able to understand how worried the rest of the world got about Italy. It wasn't in danger of falling apart; they were fighting to prevent that!

"And here I was thinking that Britain had it bad," Tristan replied, surprised at how bad it was compared to here.
Here there were just people going missing every other day. It was a much different kind of danger. There was literally no where that was really that safe, especially if one was affiliated with the Order. Tristan actually didn't have a side just yet. In Italy, it sounded like a much louder war, but here, it was in the shadows. There weren't battles... yet. But there were many dying everyday. Muggles, not that he cared much about them, were dying in the hundreds, and he was sure soon it would be the thousands.

"Oh, it's still bad here, just a different kind of bad," she reassured him. "The disappearances freaked me out at first. We don't have anything like that back home; when people die in Italy, it's usually out in the open."
She wasn't sure if that was much better, honestly. She'd seen a lot of people die that hadn't needed to, just because they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was the nature of civil war, she supposed. It didn't make her feel better, though; she still felt like she'd failed her people in some way. She should have been able to protect them. She'd been raised and trained to protect them, but she'd failed so many times. It was a bitter pill to swallow.
