"Children? That is fine," Satoru said now understanding what the pinkie swear was, and found it odd she stuck to something children did, but then again, everything was odd to him about others' behaviors, as he didn't understand why they didn't think like him, "I see. I do not think that there is a red string around my finger, and so I don't believe it's true. However, fate will bring those who destined for each other together, if they truly are destined for each other."
Satsu was odd, mostly because she had not yet slapped him across the face for a comment he had made and drove him away. Satoru only believed that this experience was destined to let him understand a different point of view, make a new friends, and perhaps something even more.
"Fear of Fate is Fear of the Future," Satoru began, "The fear of the future stems from a fear of failure, which those failures affect the future. Fear of failure probably comes from the over critical nature of your mother that makes you fear failure, thus the future and Fate itself. It is not an irrational fear given the facts already presented."
"Satsu-chan?" Satoru asked, "Are you cold?" Sure he felt cold, as it was cold, and since she was his only friend, he should ask to see if he could help.

"I always thought that pinkie swears were kind of cute," she admitted, smiling sheepishly. Well, that, and she was rarely allowed to be anything less than totally serious, so she seized any chance that she got to just be a teenager for a while.
"It's an invisible string; have an imagination, Toru-kun," she teased.
She still got the feeling that he thought that she was strange, but maybe not bad-strange? She hoped that it wasn't bad-strange; she'd like to have a friend. True, Tony was friends with her, but he was always busy with Skye. It wasn't that Satsu disliked Skye, either; she just resented that Tony never spent any time with her, anymore. It was more of an issue that she had with him than an issue that she had with Skye, really.
"Since when did you become a therapist?" she joked. "I guess you're right, but I think that I've always been scared of the idea of fate, even as a small child."
She put out her cigarette out on the step before it could go down too much and burn her fingers, although she briefly wondered if, maybe, the warmth would have been nice. She quickly shook off the fight, remembering the scars that covered her back from that nasty house fire when she was a child. Being burned was not nice at all.
"Ah, a little," she confirmed. "It's definitely the beginning of the winter."

"I agree it seems very cute. Keeping with occasional childish rituals is a good thing, as it can remind oneself of simple times," Satoru replied. Not that he had simpler times as a child. Life was a lot more simple now than it was when he was still floundering for information on why his parents were taken away from him.
"Then it just means that everyone someone meets is supposed to meet, and lovers destined to be lovers are supposed to be lovers," Satoru answered with a nod, "It means that it is true, for everything is already decided for us by Fate knowing how we think and how we will act." Satoru definitely believed that everything had been decided, and Fate knew that this is what he thought and therefore his actions would be carved in stone.
Satoru pulled out his wand and waved it, before a nice plush blanket appeared before them. "Here," Satoru offered, placing the blanket around her, "It's one I've own since I was little. I placed it under a spell to appear when I wish it to." It was a spell he learned from watching one wizard a few years ago.

"I hope this isn't rude, but...do you have many friends, Toru-kun?" she asked curiously.
"I sometimes can't help but wonder who Fate has in mind for me," she admitted. "Which I guess seems silly, but nobody ever takes much interest in me. I suppose that it's because I'm weird, or maybe it's because I'm not so pretty; I'm not really sure, but I guess it doesn't really matter."
Satsu didn't think that she was ugly; she just knew that she was sort of average Japanese-looking. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing, so she rarely thought about it, but she hadn't ever had much of a love life, and maybe that was part of it.
"Here, we can share," she offered, extending a blanket-wrapped arm.

"Friends? I do not have any friends, at least until I met you, Satsu-chan," Satoru answered with a nod. He nearly never took offense to any comment, even if it was rude, because it was a petty thing to become upset about to him.
"I believe that you are physically attractive," Toru stated, knowing that most people did worry about their appearance (much like his need to where clothes with no holes in them, even if there wasn't anything else to where, as he could not stand it), and knowing that she must have been crazy to think that she was not physically or emotionally attractive, "Not just physically, but you are attractive. As for who you will end up with, I have wondered the same thing about myself, but have come to the conclusion that I will eventually who I am meant to be with, if I am meant to be with anyone at all. A relationship would be interesting to experience, if anyone would even give me a chance. It would be a great learning experience."
Satoru had never sought relationships, friends, girlfriends, or whatever. However, that did not prevent Toru from wanting to experience something like that. He wouldn't change how he would act, nor change who he was to experience that, though. Satoru would always trust in Fate, and live the life he was supposed to live.
"T-thank you," Satoru replied, surprised that she would offer it, mostly because he offered his blanket a couple times before and they never offered to share it with him.

"Oh...? Well, then, I hope that I'm a good friend," she fussed. "I was very isolated growing up, so I didn't have much in the way of friends either. I think you might be the only true friend that I have, Toru-kun."
"I would give you a chance," she blurted without thinking and then blushed darkly and looked down at her hands, folded in her lap since she put out her cigarette. "I...I mean. Well, I actually don't know what I mean. I suppose I wanted to return the compliment...I think that you're attractive, too...I'll just stop talking; I think that I'm rambling."
She sort of admired his faith in Fate; she always wondered if she was doing the right or wrong thing and often wound up second-guessing herself. She needed to stop that, but it was an ingrained habit, by that point, and one that she didn't think that she'd be breaking it any time soon.
"Well, it's only right to share it," she explained, scooting closer so that they could share the blanket. "It's your blanket."

"Everyone found me weird and avoided me, or felt bad for me and tried to pity me. Both didn't bode well in the friends area," Toru shrugged; it was really easy to talk with Satsu, easier than anyone else, "The only people that have cared about me were those who adopted me, but even they tried to change me and make me more English."
Satoru didn't know what to think when she spoke about how she would give him a chance. It was a surprise. Maybe it was Fate's work at hand, no, there wasn't doubt about it. There were plenty of signals he was receiving from the world and the air around him, saying that this was a very important meeting in his life.
"You do not need to return the compliment. My physical appearance doesn't matter that much," Toru said with a small nod, knowing that right now he was fairly tired, as he normally was, and his eyes had dark circles, and his hair was quite unkempt. He hadn't really paid attention to how he dressed in along time. "So you would take a chance with me, despite the fact we just met, and that you do not know that much about me, Satsu-chan."
"I gathered from experience that it is normal to not share it, however, if you say that it is right, that is fine with me," Toru said, getting himself inside the blanket's warmth, and the two were fairly close together. "Look," Toru pointed up to the sky at a single star in the sky, "There is a star for you."

"I'm sorry," she murmured. "And I don't mean that I'm sorry for the fact that your life has been so hard; I'm sorry for the fact that it had to be so hard and that I complained about my own parents. It was thoughtless of me."
It was easy to talk to him; she found herself being more honest with Toru than she had been with anyone before in her life. Honestly, she had lived an entire life that revolved around being dishonest. She made the Resistance believe that she was Kaida Smith; she made her parents believe that she was a dutiful daughter. It got to be taxing after a while.
"It's not really a physical attractiveness that I was talking about, though I think that you are physically attractive," she confessed. "In terms of personality, you are attractive, at least to me. I'm not good at explaining things, but I would. We just met, but I feel like I've known you forever. I think that must be a sign."
"Well, it probably isn't," she agreed. "But it's cold, and I would feel bad about not sharing."
Her eyes lit up, and she smiled widely when he pointed out the star.
"Make a wish, Toru-kun!" she urged, closing her eyes.
'I wish for Toru-kun and I to stay friends, and for him to be happy.'

"It is nothing to be sorry for. It is just how it was meant to be. If my life didn't turn out exactly as it has, then I would not be Satoru Matsumoto," Toru explained with a shrug, "Just because in your view my life was hard, doesn't mean that before you knew it, you believed that your life was hard as well. Our lives are normally viewed as hard by those who live in it, but I know how to deal with it, and have been able to cope. You did not get the kind of life I did, and therefore you aren't used to such a life, and view it as harder than those who are used to it." He didn't even realize that he had rambled slightly.
"I see," Toru said and thought for a moment. If it was a sign from Fate then it may be meant to be, but if it wasn't, then Fate had set him up for a fall. What was the choice that Fate had determined he would make? "If that is true, perhaps Fate has destined the two of us to strike up a relationship." Now it was Satsu to make the choice that Fate had, and Toru's choice had to be to make it her choice, as it didn't seem to matter that much to him, except the fact that he did indeed truly like her.
"A wish?" Toru replied. Yet another ritual. This shouldn't be too hard.
I wish that Fate would keep Satsu and I friends forever. I wish that she will never leave me alone as everyone else in my life has done.

"You get lonely, don't you?" she asked out of the blue. "Ah! That was rude; I'm sorry...I shouldn't have asked that..."
Her face turned even redder than it had been previously, assuming that such a thing were possible, and she continued to stare at her hands embarrassedly. She wasn't good at things like this; it was a situation that she'd never really found herself in before. Boys didn't take interest in her; it just didn't happen.
"I...I guess, maybe," she agreed quietly. "I...if you want to, I mean...I think that I'm really bad at this. I'm sorry."
She liked him a lot,so she didn't want to sound like an idiot, but she couldn't help but ramble and stumble over her words. She was never shy, except for in situation like the one that she found herself in. She just wasn't good with romantic things.
"Yes! You wish on a star, and it makes it come true," she explained. "But you can't tell anyone your wish or it won't work. It's something else that children usually do."

"No, loneliness is only a perception, one that I have been able to ignore quite well over the years," Toru explained, not worrying about how one may take it rude, not taking offense to her question.
If Satsu believed that this situation was odd, Toru believed it was even odder than she did. He was surprised that she didn't run from him, or think he was just some weird person who asked odd questions, or someone who needed to be changed. And then, she was showing an interest in him, slightly more than just friends? If Toru expected that, then he would've been less surprised. Fate was either setting him up for failure, or bringing him something that he had yet to have in his life. Someone who he could depend on.
"That is fine... If... you wish it, then I would like it, Satsu-chan," Toru replied, thinking of Fate and how this was turning into a fine day, or perhaps a bad day depending on what would happen late in such a relationship. If there was a scale of 1-10 on how much Toru was experienced in romantic relationships, he would be a -1.
"Therefore it creates hope. And with hope, good things seem to abound. A very smart ritual," Toru said thoughtfully.

"Loneliness is only a perception," she repeated thoughtfully. "That's an interesting way to think about it, I suppose; I always thought that loneliness was something inevitable."
She'd spent her young life staring out the window at the other children playing, and didn't have much in the way of social skills as a result. If there was anyone who knew about loneliness, it was Satsu. He seemed surprised that she was showing any sort of interest in him, and that made her a tad nervous. She would feel bad if he shot her down; she rarely ever opened up to anyone.
"I would," she replied softly. "I really like you."

"And either way, one is never truly alone. Nature, the buildings, the air, it's always there to keep you company," Satoru expounded looking at Satsu with a smile, "Truly Nature has been the only friend I have had all my life, once I found it."
To him, Nature was alive, and something that was always there for him when everything else had left him. He had to find something, and that something had been there the whole time.
As for relationships, Satoru could tell she was nervous, due to her body language and the tone that she used when she spoke. He did not want to make her sad, he hadn't made it that far with anyone before. He mostly inspired anger in others, or pity, which he did not like the latter. Anger was just something he was so used to that he didn't even distinguish it from normal talk anymore.
"That's good," Satoru simply said before adding, "I really like you too."

"I never got to go outside much when I was growing up," she admitted. "My mother is the eldest daugther of the Sanada clan; they're very prominent. I was expected to be well-educated and a dutiful daughter, but I was rarely outside as a result. I'll admit that I'm very sheltered."
She laughed sheepishly and looked back up, smiling brightly when she saw more stars. It was funny, she couldn't help but reflect, she saw more stars over the Japanese District than she did over the British part of Diagon Alley. She wondered if it was because the British used those harsh streetlamps while the Japanese and Italians respectively used lanterns to light their streets. That must've been it, she decided.
"You're being serious, yes?" she asked, looking him in the eye with her eyebrows drawn together. "This is no joke?"

"I feel sorry for you," Satoru stated, "For you hadn't the chance to experience nature in the way I have had the opportunity to."
Satoru raised an eyebrow at Satsu when she asked if he was joking. Did he really seem like the type of person that would joke about that, or anything? He smiled before placing his hand on one of her hands. This was what people who liked each other did, right? At least his observations had proven that most people in a romantic relationship held hands, or touched with hands.
"I only joke rarely, and this is not one of those times," Satoru confirmed.
