"I bet he'd make you stop thinking about me." she spat, "Because it'd make you sad and you'd cry." she scowled. She didn't like the thought that if she died her sister wouldn't think about her all because some guy made her happier. Not a very happy thought.
She started braiding her hair out of boredom, they shouldn't be talking about this now. They should be having fun, becoming closer as sisters. Even though she hadn't been their when her mother died, when Harper had come home with out their mother she fell in the door way balling, she sat their the rest of the day waiting for her to come home. She'd done it against all the protests of Harper and Mikael. She knew her mommy would come home, she couldn't not think that. She stayed there through the night but she never came home. Then Harper had taken the role of mom and then started to fight with their dad. Each time a fight happened, she'd sit under the sink with her hands over her hears to block it out. She didn't want them to fight. Then Harper took their moms place in the war, she cried even more then. The poor girl had been through so much and everytime something happened there were tears.
"You could've been a sister, you didn't have to be mum. You're too young to be mum anyway. I want you to be you, my sister, not my mum. You're not mum." the last words kind of left her a bit prouder than she wanted them to. You know maybe I should be a lynx, they're move vicious but they aren't very proud and they're a bit more timid..."

"Who? Jake? Etta, that's not fair. You're my sister. Up until a day ago, I had to pretend that Jake and I hated each other when we were in public," she argued. "Nothihg, and I do mean nothing will ever make me forget you."
She sighed and decided that they needed to change the subject before they got into dangerous waters. Harper's involvement in the war had been what ultimately wound up driving Harp and Mikael apart. There hadn't really been an argument...actually, thinking about it made her feel guilty.
Mikael had been waiting on the stairs when Harper finally got home. His eyes strayed to her cheek where he'd slapped her before she ran out then flitted away guility. It had been the one and only time her father ever hit her.
"We need to talk, Dad," she mumbled.
Relief flickered across his face briefly before he nodded. Harper just kept her eyes on the top of the stairs. She hadn't wanted Etta to hear this...
"I've decided to take Mom's place in the war effort," she continued. "She was very involved and they need me."
"Harp, no. Y-you'll die like Lizzi! Please don't," he begged softly.
"I'm not here to discuss it; I'm here to tell you what I'm doing," she retorted firmly. "I already signed on for a mission. There's enough food in the fridge to keep you two fed for the two weeks that I'm gone."
And she left at that. She didn't see Mikael break down crying; she didn't want to. It would just make her feel guilty."
"Ever wonder why we couldn't have been normal kids? With regular problems like fighting over Gameboys?" she asked.

"Says the girl who can't catch popcorn in her mouth with out it landing on her nose." she smiled. "Sorry, ADD kicked in there.."
She thought about it, if they'd been normal. They'd be fighting over who's turn it was to use the phone, when their were going to the mall and trying to get away from each other.
"Well, if we were normal, I can see you trying to push me away because your friends didn't like me. Then when we got home, we'd argue over the phone, computer, battleing our pokemon, dueling our monsters and digitizing our digimon. We'd be total nerds! And I bet you mum would be there to laugh with us." she laughed, "Let's get going, we've got a bit of travel time. Oh! I almost forgot, one of the third years gave me this the last day of school, he said it was for you." she pulled out a little origami bird. "Apperently if we make nine hundred, nintey nine more of them, all your illnesses or what ever are supposed to heal."

"Hey! It's not that easy!" she protested. "Remember when it always landed in my hair?"
She laughed when Etta speculated about what their lives would be like if there hadn't been a war to fight. She kind of wished that there hadn't been, that their mom had lived.
"Oh, the jokes she would've made at our expense," she chuckled. "Yeah, let's go. I saw a dress that I liked...somewhere."
She couldn't exactly remember where. She hated trying to navigate London.
