“I dare say that you have a house hold name,
but for our new readers, can you inform us once
more what your parents named you?”
“My name is Lilianna Evan Young. My mummy
says that Lilianna means graceful lily, but I'm not
graceful at all. In fact, I'm really rather clumsy...
My daddy picked my middle name – Evan – and
he said it means young fighter, but I don't think
I'm one of those either... My name doesn't really
fit me, but I think it's pretty. Most people just call
me Lily.”
“Remind us again when you were born? I can
never get enough of the story surrounding
your birth.”
“My birthday's the twentieth of July, which makes
me pretty much the baby of every class. I was born
in Anglesey, and my mummy said that I was the
tiniest baby in the hospital, even though I took long
enough to come out. She said that I took hours and
hours, but because it was a beautiful day, she just
looked outside and it made her feel better. Daddy
was really nice to her too, so it wasn't so bad.”
“Okay, be honest here. Which are you in to
more: guys or dolls? Don't worry, our lips
are sealed.”
“I don't really play with dolls any more... Oh,
that's not what you meant? *blushes* OH! Well,
I don't really know... I mean, I'm still only young,
I don't have to think about that right now, do I?”
“Alright, on to the good stuff. What do you do
in your spare time? Any favorite past times?”
“At home, I like to ride my ponies, read books,
play the piano, help mummy and daddy, and bake.
Mostly cookies and brownies. Daddy says I'm really
old fashioned, but that he thinks it's cute. I don't use
gadgets all that much, but I do have an iPod that I'll
have to leave at home. It won't work in Hogwarts, or
that's what the letter said anyway.”
“Tell me: what are your favorite things in the
entire world? Those special things that just
make you want to smile?”
“It's really easy to make me smile. Compliments,
music, funny jokes, the smell of fresh baking or cut
grass. Anything that smells clean and new. Cute little
baby animals make me smile too, and pretty things.
Especially if I can buy them. Oh, and I LOVE giving
presents to people.”
“And sadly we all know that there are things
that we just can't stand. What are yours?”
“Well, I don't really like to say that I don't like
things, but since you ask.... Wait, you won't
tell anyone, will you? I don't like dogs that are
bigger than me, and I don't like nasty people.
And I don't really like the rain, either, because
it's hard on the ponies when the ground is all
sticky and muddy. And I hate when mummy and
daddy are sad.”
“Any short or long term goals? Where do
you see yourself five years? In ten? How
do you plan to get there?”
“In five years, I will still be here. Older,
hopefully smarter, and with friends. I really
hope I make friends. Ten years time is hard
for me to think of, because I'm only just past
ten myself, but maybe I could have a stables,
or a bakery, or working in a hospital, helping
people!”
“What makes you quake in your boots?
If you had to pick one thing that scared
you the most, what would it be?”
“The one thing that scares me the most? Gee, I
don't really know. I'm not scared of spiders, like
most people, and I don't mind snakes or the dark,
or anything like that... I guess the thing that makes
me most scared is angry people. It sounds silly, but
because everyone is bigger than me, louder people
are scary, and can seem a bit like monsters.”
“Is there a significant other in your life? How
do you do with relationships?”
“I'm eleven, so of course I don't have a boyfriend!
What kind of silly question is that? Boys are icky!
They smell, and they're messy, and they're all really
loud... But maybe I'll like them next year or the year
after....”
“Now, you know that we adore you, but let's
talk about some other people for a little bit. A
little bird told me that you have some pretty
well known parents. Who are they?”
“I don't really know that they're well known...
I mean, people come and see them all the
time, and they're really really busy because
mummy's a lawyer and daddy invented some
machine that makes it easier for people to do
their jobs, but they still have time for me, and
I love them both a lot. They tell me every day,
and they have special pet names for me. I'm
nearly too old for them, but I won't tell them
just yet.”
“Any other important people in your family?
Did your parents have any other children?”
!I have a little brother who's eight years old,
and he's really smart. Smarter than me, I bet,
and I wouldn't be surprised if he's a wizard too.
Mummy and daddy aren't too sure, though, 'cos
neither of them are magic. They were really
surprised when I got my letter, and they didn't
believe it at first. Neither did I, though. I mean,
who believes in magic if it's not around all the time?”
“How about pets? How many do you have?”
“I have two ponies, Penny and Farthing. Daddy
suggested the names, and I think they're cute. I've
had my ponies since I was nine, and they're getting
really big. Daddy says that soon I'll have to grow to
be able to ride them! We also have a puppy called
Benedict, who we just got a couple of months ago,
and my owl that we got specially for school is a tawny,
according to the lady in the shop. She's called Bella.”
“Okay, you have to have known that we were
going to ask. What's your biggest and best
kept secret? I won't tell.”
“You have to really really promise not to tell....
OK... My biggest secret is that... When I was
six years old, I told my mummy that Jason, my
little brother, fell down, when really I smacked him
for taking my toys without asking. Please don't
tell her!”
“Ok, so who are you loyal to? Dumbledore's
Army, The Dragon's Fire, The Order of the Pheonix,
The Death Eaters, or none of them?”
“I don't know who any of them are... Are they bands?
They sound like the kinds of names for wizard bands.
Do they even have wizard bands? The Dragon's Fire
sounds cool, but I really have no idea who they are or
what they do. Can you tell me?”
“Interesting! Now finally, the last question.
What time are you from, Harry's or James'?”
“Who's James? I was told the story of Harry Potter
by one of the ladies in the wizard shops, but I don't
know anyone called James. And why does everyone
whisper when they tell the story? And why won't they
tell me the bad man's name? It's such a frustrating
story when you don't have all the information.”
