Al and Abby were sitting on the steps of his aunt's gelato shop with Julius, Lexi and Rigdon. They had volunteered to take the kids for gelato so that Gabe and Sophie could dance in the crowd of people that had taken to the streets of the Third Yard for Christmas celebrations. Sophie took remarkably well to Italian culture, Al noted.
He laughed as Juli dreamily watched the magical fireflies some brilliant romantic had conjured up for light drifting among the residents of the Third Yard. He thought they were pixies, Al recalled. The boy was strangely obsessed with pixies.
"You ever think we might move here when everything settles down? Live here instead of Bari?" he asked Abby softly.

Abby was bouncing Rig up and down on her knee while Lexi made faces at the baby. Children were just so cute. They had this air of laughter and play that adults didn't. Well, that Brits and Italians didn't have. The Spanish were all over play. DiĆ de los Muertos was her favorite day of the year.
"I dunno, I was hoping to take a trip to Venezuela one year when Rig was older. But I can see us living here." She nodded leaning on his shoulder.

He smiled and turned his head slightly to kiss the top of her head. Rig giggled and clapped delightedly when one of the conjured fireflies lighted down on his nose. Lexi giggled as well, and prodded Juli's shoulder. He turned his attention to his cousin's face and smiled brightly.
"We never got to have a honeymoon," he noted. "Maybe you, Rig and I will visit your family in Barcelona."

"How about some where neither of us have been? Like... somewhere in the northern part of Europe?" Abby said smiling at Rig. Although, she wished she had a daughter as well, Abby loved her son. He was just a bouncing ball of joy and Lexi made him laugh, and Juli could keep him calm. She could tell they were going to make great sitters when the time came.
Lexi looked like she wanted to hold Rig and Abby held the baby out slightly for her. "Ah, ah, you have to sit with him. I don't want him to be dropped, Lexi. Your father should explain why, I could, and so could Al but that's more your father's job then mine." the girl looked pleased still and sat down with Rig.
"Feliz Navidad... Feliz Navidad, prospero ano y feliz idad." she sang softly.

"Norway, maybe?" he suggested. "The pictures I've seen are nice."
Julius finally succeeded in catching one of the little magical fireflies and sat down looking very pleased with himself. Al was fairly certain that he heard the little boy murmur something about pixies. He would have to talk to Gabe later about his son; Juli was not right in the head, he was sure. He would talk to Gabe without Abby knowing, he decided. She didn't see anything wrong with Juli and, indeed, seemed to think that they boy was wonderful and witty.
From inside of Aunt Celesta's gelatto shop, he heard Pyre start singing some American song called "What're You Doing New Year's Eve?" as she swept the floor. George had promised to come out to celebrate with her, but he hadn't shown his face just yet.
((Georgie? Please?))

((George, Mary and Abby... Ai dios mio...))
Abby shrugged, Norway would be nice. Just so long as it was summer, Norwegian winters were cold. Heck, anywhere was colder than Spain in the winter. "Finland?" She suggested.
George was a bit late, he'd run into a little blonde girl who'd seen someone who looked liked her father go this way and he didn't want her to go alone.
"I think he went this way..." The little girl, Mary, said. "I know I saw him go this way..."
"Come on I'll get you some Italian ice cream for all your hard work." George smiled.
"Okay," Mary looked a bit upset.
They walked to where George was meeting Pyre. When Mary exclaimed, it was because she'd seen the people sitting on the steps.
"THAT'S DADDY!" She exclaimed. She ran up to the guy and hugged him. "I found you daddy!! But who's this lady? She's not mommy,, mommy has my hair color..." She said stroking a pieced of her hair.

"Too much licorice," he replied, shuddering. Al hated licorice.
Juli looked up when Mary ran over to Al and hugged him, blinking owlishly. Al couldn't be Mary's daddy; Al was Rigdon's daddy. He wasn't old enough to be Mary's. Juli didn't say anything; he decided that it was the pixies.
"U-um...who is this?" Al asked George, eye twitching.
Pyre stuck her head out the doorway and smiled brightly.
"Oh, she's so cute!" she remarked cheerfully.

"Fredonia? Switzerland? Austria? We can make a whole European tour out of it all.." Abby shrugged. She could have sworn this little girl who came up an hugged Al had just called her, 'this lady'. Of course, to the girl she was just some lady but to be calling Al her father? There was just no way. "Yes, who is she?" she asked. Although, there was no doubt in her mind, the girl was just down right adorable.
"I'm Mary, daddy. Don't you remember? You went away for a while after the car hit us. You had me stay with mister Greene. Don't you remember?" Mary asked. She tilted her head to the side. She didn't know how else to really put any of this, it was as if . . . No. This guy was her father she was sure of it.
"She said she'd seen her dad go through here, then we couldn't find him... I offered her gelato.." George summed up. He didn't know how else to explain his bizzare way of meeting the girl. She was just pacing back and forth by the entrance.
"So, Mary, how do you know he's your daddy sweet heart?" Abby asked after George had finished explaining.
"I know because he is, he looks just like my daddy, lady." Mary nodded. She looked over at Juli and squeaked, "Juli!" and ran over and hugged him around the neck.
"Al, I think her parents are dead and she can't accept it..." Abby whispered to her husband, "Hit by a car? What a horrible way to go..."
