Severus Snape had been confirmed the Headmaster earlier this day. School would be continuing shortly. The wedding of Bill and Fleur was over, Potter was on the run. Sev wasn't sure what he was supposed to do. He wanted to help the students as he really cares about the students, no matter how much he showed hate for them. Sev couldn't go and explain to Harry right now everything, he had to be patient. He had to wait
Severus walked from his new office, after a lengthy chat with Albus Dumbledore, and out into the school. Severus Snape wanted to clear his head. It was hard to keep up a charade like this, but he had to, or he would be killed by the Carrows, or someone else that was with the Death Eaters. He couldn't slip up. He had to stay on the alert.
It was late at night, and he was up in the Seventh Floor, nearby where the Room of Requirement could be found. He looked out a nearby window, out onto the grounds. If only he could tell someone. Maybe it would clear his head. He couldn't tell anyone. He had to lie. Harry's life depended on it.

Marissa was visiting the school on behalf of her best friend, Rissa. She was to make sure that it was still safe for her nieces, nephews and a few of the newer Council members to attend Hogwarts. It was odd to see the Carrows look at her with something akin to respect, but they weren't the only ones. Two wars and many years separated her from the quiet little Mari Cavaliere that the Carrows remembered. Her and her siblings had achieved fame for the battles they'd fought early in Italy's latest (and ongoing) Civil War.
She was currently on the seventh floor. She hadn't been up here in so long that she'd nearly forgotten the way; maybe it would've been best to accept that teaching job she'd been offered....no, she was needed in Italy. That's why she couldn't have.
She paused briefly when she noticed Severus before deciding to join him.
"It's been a while," she noted.

Sev was lost in thought when he had heard a voice he remembered quite well. Marissa Cavaliere, his old friend from school. He swallowed, putting on his normal hard expression. He was the killer of her leader. Well sort of her leader. She was part of the Order, but also her Curia group back in Italy. And he killed Dumbledore. No one besides him knew the true reason behind it. He was sure that that she would think of him like that, past friends or not.
"Indeed it has," Severus returned, his expression still hardened. He couldn't explain to her his reasons. No, it would be stupid to reveal anything to her, or anyone. The two of them could never be friends, unless she could just deal with the fact that he was a murderer and a bloody Death Eater. Even he wouldn't associate with himself, if he didn't know the reasons behind it all.
Some might call him brave. Some might call him stupid. Some might call him a coward. He just was doing what he was told by the one who tried his best to protect the woman he loved. Unlike Voldemort. He was doing his duty. He was simply doing what was right.

"I'm not going to ask you why you killed him," she began. "I learned years ago to just accept that you'll always do what you think is right, but Sev, I really hope you know what you're doing."
She looked out the window then stiffened and turned her head away when she caught sight of the tree Vinny had always loved to climb when they went to school. God...even after twelve years, it was crazy how much it tore at her to see things that made her think of him. Over a decade after losing him, it shouldn't still break her heart to imagine how happy Vin would've been to see that tree still standing.
Severus hadn't just been Mari's good friend in school; Vinny had called him his best friend. She would never abandon someone that had meant so much to both her and her late husband and Lily. Vin and Lily would've never forgiven her if she'd turned her back on him, now.

"I do know what I am doing," Severus replied confidently, turning his head, smiling ever so slightly. If he smiled more often it would be hard to notice, but it was different than his normal expression and therefore was quite noticeable. He truly did know what he was doing... mostly.
Dumbledore was vague with some of his instructions, and specific with others. If there wasn't that portrait in the Headmaster's office, he might be completely lost. He would, of course, flounder his way through, looking completely in control. It was just something he was able to do. Look completely in control when he was lost.
He actually was happy that Mari had been able to look past the fact that he killed Dumbledore and not even know his true reason behind it all. He hoped that Lily and Vinny were happy and proud of him right now for doing what he was doing. Especially since he was looking after Lily's son just for her.

"You'd better, or I'll smack you," she threatened. "You know how I feel about those half-cocked plans you and Vin were always so proud of."
She smiled back at him. He didn't smile often; he never did, so it was something special when he did. It had been more frequent when Vinny was still alive. He'd had one of those personalities that made everyone around him chuckle and feel a little better about their days. Sometiems, that was what Mari most missed. The sunniness, the stupid little plans that would've never worked had she not stepped in...she missed all of it.
As she'd said before, Mari had long since learned to just accept that Sev would tell her what he wanted her to know when he got around to it. She'd never known him to do anything stupid without good reason. She could only believe that he'd had a good reason to kill Dumbledore.

"Ah yes," Severus said remembering back to the good ol' school days hanging around with his actual friends, "You have nothing to worry about. I've thought of everything, this time."
Severus missed all of it as well. Vinny was his best friend in school, if you didn't count Lily, and now that he was gone, well, there wasn't anyone to pull him out from his brooding loner tendencies. Even with Marissa here now, it wasn't the same without them. Actually if one looked at it, one could compare them to those idiot Marauders. Vinny was like James, Marissa was like Remus, and he... he had to be like Black. No, but that wasn't too accurate, they weren't complete imbeciles like those boys were.
Sev really wanted to tell her what he was doing, so she would not doubt him having his reasons, which was sure she'd doubt. But that was probably just his imagination. She seemed quite firm on the stance of not doubting he had a good reason. Only those who knew him pretty well would know that.

"For once," she scoffed jokingly. "Chris asked me to tell you that he said hello if I saw you, by the way. He was supposed to be here, too, but he got caught up in Alghero. Nasty business, civil war.
This one had been going on too long and taken too many lives. Everyone was tired and wanted it to be over with. For over twelve years, they'd been fighting. It had actually become a regular part of their lives, crazily enough. Once enough time had gone by, the war had become background noise as life went on. Mari couldn't believe that they'd let it get like this.
She had fond memories of Hogwarts, probably the fondest of her childhood. Spending time with Sev, Lily, Chris and Vin. Her father's class, even though Giovanni had been a terror as the DADA teacher, they'd all liked him. She sometimes wished that she could go back to that.

"Yes, for once. It's a miracle," Severus replied, his expression hardening again, and his very small smile fading, "This civil war of yours has been going on for a very long time. Is there no end in sight?"
He hoped the war here between the Dark Lord and everyone else didn't turn out to be like one of the Italian Civil Wars. From what he knew of them they were not pleasant. They took Vinny away and Mari had fought in them as well. While there weren't many here that he specifically cared about (Those here being Draco, Mari, Chris, Harry, only because he was Lily's son and a few others), there was always the whole student body as a whole he wanted to protect. He did care about the general populace, and even if it wasn't all for Lily, he felt that he probably would've done the same, after realizing Voldemort wasn't the right side to be on.
Snape wished they could all go back to their school days and just live in that time right now. Back then it was simple. He had the best friends in the world, and even if he was picked on by Potter and his friends, it was the best time of his life. At home it was terrible, at school he had his friends.

"No, not really. Nobody is willing to give in. We'll keep fighting until someone does, though. We've lost too many to let it go, now," she admitted. To lighten the mood, she thought of something and smiled a little. "Hey, do you remember my father's class?"
Giovanni's class had been her favorite. As much of an unholy terror as her father could be, Mari had enjoyed it. She remembered a day when James Potter had pulled some prank that resulted in her father's desk exploding. Gio (nobody could pronounce her last name, so they'd all called him Professor Gio) had just smiled and turned James' hair pink. It had stayed like that for weeks afterwards.

"I do hope it will end soon," Sev stated, thinking that he didn't want to loose her as well to these bloody civil wars they were having, "Ah yes, Professor Gio's class. He was the one who got me hooked on Defense Against the Dark Arts. We had some good times. Especially the time when he turned Potter's hair pink. I can't say I wasn't laughing about that for weeks after Potter's hair returned to normal."
Professor Gio was the best, and pretty hard on them, but Sev just figured that was because he wanted them to do the best they could. It was probably the class he missed the most, even if Potter was in it with his band of baboons. Always hitting on lovely Lily. But all of that didn't matter, because he still had a great time in the class. Why couldn't they just go back in time and relive all those great moments?

"Si, I do, too," she agreed softly. "Oh, dio, or what about the time he taught us Wingardium Leviosa and told us to practice it on Pettigrew?"
Peter was frequently on her father's bad side for one reason or another. On that particular occasion she was pretty sure that he'd just up and refused to do the essay that Gio had assigned. As retaliation, Gio had told them to practice Wingardium Leviosa on him. Her father was old-school Italian, and he didn't take what he viewed as insubordination very well.
"You know he's been talking about coming out of retirement to help out the new Defense Against the Darks Arts professor?" she asked.
She'd gathered that her father and Sev had kept in contact through letters over the years and wondered if Gio had mentioned it to him.

"The rat's face was priceless," Severus said, a small, tiny smile sprouting again, "Gio seemed to dislike the Marauders, though Remus wasn't on his bad side as much."
From what he could remember, Gio didn't seem to like any of the marauders that much, though Remus seemed to be hated less. Maybe it was because Remus wasn't as much of a toerag as the three others. As for Peter, Snape hated him, even more now, especially once he learned Peter was the one to give up Lily to Voldemort.
"I hadn't heard that," Sev replied thinking about how Professor Gio might react to all that he had done so far, and Sev being his superior, "Though, it wouldn't be terrible if he returned. I wonder what has driven him to think about coming out of retirement."

"He had some very colorful names that he used for the Marauders behind closed doors," she agreed with a laugh. "I don't think he entirely hated Remus, though. I think it was his choices in friends that he hated."
Gio had only used his "colorful" names for the Marauders in front of Sev once, when Sev had been invited (dragged) home for Christmas by Mari and Chris. It had also been poor Sev's first real encounter with Marisol, who had still been living at home at the time since her apartment complex had been torn down. Mari still wasn't sure that he'd figured out what he thought of Sol.
"Apparently, he was annoyed by the constant change in professors that you metioned in your letters," she explained then shifted to a teasing tone. "Those poor students, you've released a monster. I hope you're happy with yourself."

"That's to say the least," Sev said with a small chuckle remembering that Christmas. Though he had to admit it was one of the better Christmas' he had ever had, even if Marisol still was... well... he still didn't even know what to even think about her. She was just so... he didn't. "He used some names, that Christmas when you dragged me to your house, that I would never even dream of using for even the 'Golden Trio' of today."
The Golden Trio, as some called them, were almost like the Marauders as well. Harry was James, Ron was Sirius, Hermione was Remus, and that boy, Longbottom was like Peter, at least Neville was for a good amount of years. It was actually quite amazing how much Longbottom changed.
"Ah, I see. That is because there is apparently a curse, if you remember, no Defense professor has lasted more than a year in quite a long time," Severus said understanding now. If one were to stick around longer than a year, it would be Gio. "He's not that bad, Amelia," Severus said with a small chuckle, "Maybe he could whip some of these kids into shape, hopefully not literally."
