"A World War," Sev said softly, "I do sincerely hope the North Americans stay out of it. However, with the rule that the Dark Lord is imposing, I doubt they would allow it to just happen sitting down."
And if the Americans, or Canadians joined the war, then there would be a better chance of winning against Voldemort. From the experience in Germany and the Americans' reaction to it, he was sure they would act. Here Voldemort was enslaving muggles and muggleborns and forcing them into a torturous prison where the life was sucked out of them. Or at least soon they would.
"I don't know if Hogwarts really needs something to liven it up here," Sev replied quite seriously, "I am sure there will be internal strife, even here."

"They like their freedom, and I can't see them just allowing it to be taken away from anyone else," she speculated. "You remember how they reacted to the Soviet Union! I don't see anyone avoiding a World War."
She'd paid close attention to the Cold War just because she'd been, like most of the world, afraid of a nucleur holocaust. Because of this, she keenly remembered the tensions that had built over the construction of the Berlin Wall. She remembered how the Americans refused to acknowledge that Lithuania was a member of the Soviet Union. It had been a scary time, and now it looked like another World War would be blossoming on its heels.
"Well, at the very least, he'll make things a little happier; the students always liked him on good days," she recalled.

"What would be even worse is if the muggles were to join in the war as well as the North Americans. Perhaps even the French or Spainish may join the war if the North Americans do," Sev mused, thinking it could happen, "If I was the one in charge, I'd stay out of the war all together."
And yet, here he was, following the orders of a man he killed on his the man's orders, in the middle of the war. Sev wasn't one to watch closely the on the Cold War, or any of the events that were taking place other than in Britain. He was more worried about not pissing off his father when his father was alive, keeping Lily alive, which failed, and keeping Harry alive, which Sev knew Harry would have to die. He didn't do well on any of those three things.
"True, true. He could bring a good few laughs with his... ah, teaching attitude, I suppose," Sev answered smiling at her for a short time before he returned his gaze to Dumbledore's tomb and hardening his expression.

"The French and Spanish aren't members of the Eastern Coalition, but they have very close diplomatic ties with Italy. If an attack is made by non-Auditore on Italian soil, the French and Spanish will have to join the war. They will have no choice; it's a condition of the alliance," she explained.
She would have preferred that the Curia had remained neutral, but she knew that it hadn't been an option. They had to take responsibility for the Auditore's actions in Britain. They'd partially facilitated it; they'd been so lax on border-control. She supposed that nobody thought that the Auditore would venture out of Italy, ever. It just hadn't crossed their minds; they'd been fighting for control of the country for so long...
"He's come up with a few new prank-spells," she recalled. "He seemed very excited to put them into use."

"Well let's just hope that the Dark Lord doesn't feel adventurous and try to attack Italy," Sev replied, believing that eventually Voldemort may do just that.
Sev didn't mean it to sound like Voldemort was even thinking about it, which from his knowledge he wasn't. However, Sev was worried that Voldemort may try to take over the whole world. He wasn't sure if he would be able to just let it happen at this point. If Voldemort tried anything more than just England, Sev was sure he would have to break his cover, but that was getting ahead of himself. Voldemort wasn't planning that at the moment. Sev needed to keep his cover, if not just for a year or so more. Harry's life depended on it. Voldemort's death depended on it.
"As long as he doesn't try them out on myself," Sev said with a small chuckle.

"I think that full-out World War can be mostly avoided so long as bloodshed on the soil of actual Coalition members is prevented," she noted. "However, I have to warn you, if any Easterner is killed by a Westerner, I can't promise that their nation's government won't retaliate."
Things were different in the East; outright aggression was less tolerated. They would not stand for attacks on their own land. Hell, they barely stood for attacks on British soil. She'd been trying to help the situation because she didn't want to see the situation in England spiral any further out of control, but she didn't think that anyone could prevent that at this point. It was all getting too crazy too fast.
"Oh, I'm sure he'll find a more amusing target than you," she promised with a soft laugh.

"I really do not wish that to happen," Sev replied rubbing his forehead for a second, all of this was getting out of hand, even out of the hands of Dumbledore's plans. He just hoped it all would work itself back into Dumbledore's plans and have everything work out in the end, "The Dark Lord is someone that even I don't know what he will plan to do next."
It was quite the truth. There were times when it was easy to know what he was planning, such as the year when Black died, but others it was much more difficult. Sev didn't even know the reason why the Carrows were here to teach. It wasn't like he was out a DADA professor. Though, nowadays with the transfers there were two professors for each subject, and one of the Carrows had to take up the role as the second DADA professor, he supposed. Sev wished that it was his choice. Voldemort wanted education for the children and Sev was sure that Amycus and Alecto weren't going to do a good job teaching them.
"So if Amycus comes and complains about someone turning his hair pink, I'll know who to ask about it," Sev replied.

"I've stopped even bothering with guessing," she grumbled. "Everything rests in the hands of a group of unpredictable wild cards. It bothers me."
She hated people that just couldn't stick to a damned plan. There were so many failed battles and rescues that she could attribute to people like that. Maybe it was the Ravenclaw part of her that just didn't like unpredictability, but she was really beginning to resent those in power at the moment. They were all liable to do just about anything, and nobody could stop them. Marissa hated being powerless almost as much as she hated hotheads.
"Amycus," she grumbled, making a face. "As delightful as ever, I see. I ran into him on my way up."
Having bested Amycus in several duels in their youth (and subsequently leaving him stuck to the ceiling), she really wasn't afraid of him. She just didn't like him.

"As it does I," Sev said with a sigh, "Even as a Death Eater, I can't help but wonder..." Snape looked around a moment, before saying, "If the Dark Lord is just as insane," he looked around nervously again, pulling his wand to make sure that no one was there, casting a spell which would reveal presences nearby, and there was no one it seemed.
Sev actually almost began doubting Dumbledore there as well. What if Dumbledore was wrong? What if the Potter boy wouldn't die at the right time? Dumbledore was a great man, but how was he so sure about it all? Prophecies didn't come true some of the time, and perhaps this one wouldn't either.
"Ah," Sev said knowing how the two didn't get along too well in school, "I guess it wasn't a warm welcome?"

"I don't think that there's any degree of great power without an equal degree of insanity," she noted dryly. "I've always thought Dumbledore was more than a litte off his rocker."
Marissa had once, in their fifth year, told Severus that she was fairly certain that Dumbledore was such a great wizard because he was just too crazy to be afraid to try anything. She was still fairly certain of this, especially because Dumbledore had been proving her correct consistently towards the end, from what Sev had told her in his letters over the years. Had it really been years since the last time they saw each other face-to-face? Yes, she supposed it had. Voldemort's fall had coincided with the beginning of the civil war that currently raged in Italy. Mari had, as a result, not gotten a break between wars.
"Oh, quite the opposite," she scoffed. "It was far too warm. I see that the old charms haven't rusted with disuse."
It really could be annoying, sometimes, being half-Veela. Men like Amycus that she didn't want to be attracted to her always seemed to be. Her charms had been useful in school, though; Professor Slughorn had found her simply delightful. How else had she managed to keep out of trouble for barely bothering to complete his assigned classwork?

"Yes, I suppose that is true," Sev answered still a bit worried that someone else had heard him; if one of the Carrows heard he thought the Dark Lord insane sometimes, then he might have been in a little bit of trouble. Trouble was the last thing he needed. "Then again, I suppose that each of us are a little off our rockers in the views of others."
He was pretty sure he was little bit off his rocker for loving a dead woman, protecting her son for her, following the orders of a dead man to spy on one of the most dangerous people in the world. And his reason? Because he felt guilty for telling Voldemort half the prophecy that made him go away for 10 years or so. Then again, he was the reason the woman he loved once was dead. Off his rocker? Sort of.
"I see," Sev said with a nod, feeling that he would be giving Amycus a talking to later of how to treat visitors, "I guess he's as charming as ever?"
Sev really didn't like that Amycus at all, just like Alecto. But really, the thought of Amycus trying to give Marissa a very warm welcome didn't sit right with him. He didn't know why really, but he supposed it was because Marissa was a very good friend from school and Amycus was a Death Eater, and he despised Death Eaters.

"We'd have to be to do half of the things we've done," she agreed. "I don't think you could live in these times without being a little crazy."
Or maybe take a page from young Lord Shayne's book and be so self-confident that you feel safe just about anywhere...although Marissa viewed that as a form of insanity in and of itself. She was fairly certain that the kids that made up the new Council were all pretty crazy. They'd have to be to be willing to take up leadership positions while fighting a war on two fronts...yep, they were crazy. No way around it.
"Ha! He wishes!" she responded. "He was lucky I had better places to be, or I would have put him to the sword for some of the comments he made."

"True. However, most of what we've done is for a reason, whether it be following a plan laid out by another, or doing our own thing. We're fighting for what we believe in," Sev said with a small nod.
He guessed that most of the stuff one did they did it for a reason, usually a reason that made sense to others. If they were all insane, wouldn't that make everyone sane, because they were all insane together, so all of the sane ones would technically be insane.
"He'd probably prefer the sword over what I have planned to teach him proper manners towards guests," Sev replied with a small laugh.

"Sometimes it's hard to tell if we're fighting for something because we believe in it or because we don't know any better these days," she sighed.
Marissa preferred not to think about the technicalities of sanity. They made her head hurt. She liked things that were concrete and always made sense; maybe that was why she'd never been a fan of those stupid romance novels that had been popular when she was in Hogwarts. They were either too predictable or not predictable enough. It all bothered her tremendously.
"Oh, I'm sure I could make him wish he hadn't chose the sword," she retorted.

"I suppose that could be correct. I'll be happy fooling myself that it's for what's right," Sev responded with a small smile looking towards the tomb and really hoping what he was doing was right.
He preferred to believe he was doing what was right. If he didn't, he wouldn't be doing it, probably. Whether he was a fool for believing it or not, he preferred to just pretend he was right in doing what he was doing. If he did not know any better, then he might just be doing nothing, and he'd probably be dead by now, or maybe he'd be actually working for Voldemort. Neither of those seemed very favorable.
"I'm sure you could," Sev replied with a small laugh. Ah, it felt to good to be around an actual friend these days. It really raised his mood.
