At Molly's instructions, Pyre had been laid on a couch while Molly checked her injuries. She'd been able to tell her boyfriend's mother where all of the bones she thought were broken were ("F-fifth rib...on th-the right..."), but beyond there, she hadn't been much help. As a matter of fact, she'd eventually passed out lying there on that couch.
Meanwhile, Aura had similarly been laid down on a couch. Cassie kneeled at the dead eleven-year-old's side, doing the obligatory checks. Pulse? No. Breathing? No. Dead? Oh, most definitely. All that was left now was Aura's father coming to take her back to Italy for her funeral.
"What happened, Leo?" she demanded over her shoulder.
"I...I don't know," he admitted, visibly shaken by the whole ordeal. "One minute everything was going according to plan and the next...this."
She glanced from Aura's pale, disturbingly peaceful face to Pyre unconcious, battered and bruised while Molly crooned over her. There was no denying that something had gone terribly wrong...but that was the nature of war, wasn't it?
So why did she feel so guilty?

Lianna was too busy stuffing her face. She hadn't eaten the entire time she was held captive. "I didn't know where I was, what was going on, or who I was being held by! I didn't even know I'd been taken.. I thought mama was hiding me in a closet..." she explained to Al who she was sure wasn't listening. She threw a roll at his head. In italian she said, "Listen to me! I'm not a kid, so don't ignore me!" She was pretty sure her mother would come soon too. She'd been missing for a while so, her mother was worried right? Yeah, right, because she wasn't getting comfort from her boy toy.
Tonks was hiding back behind one of the counters rubbing her stomach trying to tell herself that everything was going to be okay and that Remus would come back and be happy. She just couldn't shake off what he'd said, ..It was a mistake, I shouldn't have married you... she just kept crying about that.
George was getting lectured by his mother while she healed Pyre. "Yes mum. Yes mum." he repeated over and over. Molly was just talking about how he shouldn't have gone, he should've caught her, he should've done this, he should've done that. He knew already, he'd beat himself up over it that whole time!

"I'm not ignoring you," Al grumbled in Italian. "That "boy toy" you keep talking about is my father, you know."
He let his head rest in his hands as he sat there and kept replaying the instant Aura had died in his head. He could've stopped it...he knew he could've. He should have stayed outside to help with the distraction and sent Aura with Leo. She'd still be alive, then. And Al could've caught Angelina, so she wouldn't be in so much pain....oh, God, Angelina. They'd all been so shaken about losing Aura that they hadn't even thought about her. She was always so sweet, and she tried so hard to help, and he hadn't even been thinking about her...
Cassie wandered back into the kitchen area with a sigh, shaking her head. She noticed Nymphadora and smiled a little, walking over to stand next to her niece.
"He'll come around, Dora," she reassured her softly. "Men like that just need time."
Being in and out of conciousness as she was at the moment, Pyre only caught little snippets of conversation. What she managed to piece together, though, was that Molly was lecturing George. Realizing that the hand holding hers was George's, she squeazed it lightly in hopes of being reassuring.

"Keep my mom out of his bed and he won't have that name any more." Lianna had a bit of a snide grin. Her mother, she sometimes swore evil lived in that womans heart. "I don't even want to think about if he might be my dad. If he is, that'd make you my half brother, and just about everyone else my family too! My mother... the sinner. Leo you agree with me right?" She had that look of agree-with-me-or-else.
Tonks looked up at her aunt, "You didn't hear what he said, he said he'd made a mistake marrying me, and that we should've just stayed friends and-and.." She couldn't finish the sentence because another wave of her tears and wailing came over her. "It was like he'd forgotten what he'd promised, he said he'd stay with me and he left when he found out I was having his baby. I don't even know where he is, he didn't come right back after leaving." She mopped her face, she looked horrible. Only one person could make her hurt like his and it was now the second time in two years that she'd had to deal with this. "My heart hurts and he won't come back. Aunt Cassie, I'm scared and I don't know what to do.."
George gasped a bit when he felt Pyre squeeze his hand. Atleast she was somewhat responsive. That was all that really mattered. He squeezed back and Molly got to the usual part. Although, he hadn't heard in since they'd rescued Harry from the Dursley's.
"You could've died! You could've been seen!" She ranted. "Wrong speech mum." he corrected. "Oh, right. I'm not speaking to the boy who crashed a flying car into the whomping willow!" she raised her voice.

"He's not your father; he didn't start sleeping with your mother until after mine died, and you'd already been born by that point," he reminded her mildly.
"Yes, dear," Leo replied dismissively. He'd long-since learned to just go along with it and agree with Lia when she got like this. There was really no point in arguing after a point.
Cassie sighed and pulled Nymphadora into a hug. She'd be asking Fara and Nadya if they'd seen her nephew-in-law the next time she saw them. If they hadn't seen Lupin, she was sure that they'd seen that good-for-next-to-nothing father of theirs, Greyback. She wasn't even sure what possessed them to continue to let him visit.
"Ah...Dora. Give him time; he'll come back. And if he doesn't, Aurelius and I will be having an interesting conversation with him when we find him, eh?" she asked.
"Nngh...what?" Pyre mumbled, finally managing to reopen her eyes.
She had to blink a few times when the light was too bright for her, but when her vision cleared, she realized that Molly and George were still standing over her. She smiled a little for George even though she still felt like one massive bruise.

"You never know! And besides she did date him durring their time at Hogwarts and he dumped her for no good reason!!" Lianna was near ready to go into her long winded, meaningless rant in italian. "Thank you Leo." she had a triumphant smile on her face. She stuck her tounge out at Al then remembered, "So what exactly happened after I went to check on my puppy? I just remember seeing them then BAM! Memory gone." Get off the subject, change it, change it! She grabbed Leo's hand and laced their fingers togerher. Her hands were so smal and delicate looking compared to his. She shook off this thought, had to focus on the food, had to eat her weight in food! She'd been starved the whole time she was there.
Tonks hugged her aunt back, being sure not to squish her ever growing stomach. What ever this kid was, boy or girl, it was getting big pretty fast. Luckily it wasn't kicking already. If it was, she'd have issues with it.
"You'll have to smack him atleast once though." she chuckled. Atleast Cassie understood how she felt and was giving her comfort, her mother had continued saying, 'See? I told you that he was going to do something like this didn't I, Nympadora?' It was a horrible thing to hear from her mother everytime you let out a wail or whimper.
"Good morning Starshine! The Earth says 'Hullo'!" George chuckled, "Now that you're awake I don't have to listen to this rant by myself!" "Be quiet George, go get a glass of water for the girl." Molly shook her head. And mouthed as George walked away, 'You chose one of my prankster sons?'

"He dumped her for my mother," Al deadpanned.
Leo and Al both fell silent and instinctively looked over to where Aura lied before both shook their heads.
"J...just eat. You must be starving, and that's not healthy," Leo mumbled.
Cassie laughed softly and kissed the top of her niece's head. This was going to be a big baby, she could tell already. She hoped that it wasn't as energetic as it was large; the child would be a handful if it was.
"Just once?" Cassie teased. "I think twice is more appropriate."
"Ah...I don't think we've ever met properly," Pyre noted softly, smiling a little. "I..I'm Pyre della'Rosa...my friends and family call me Angelina."
Except for George who kept insisting that Pyre was cuter...she wasn't sure that he knew exactly what a Pyre was. They definitely weren't cute.

Lianna ignored that comment and kept eating. "Does anyone want to brainstorm why they took me and kept me in Asia?" That was one thing she would have loved to know the answer to. She was a bit jumpy though. If someone opened the door she was sure she might actually get under the table to hide. She was just... so paranoid.
"As hard as needed okay? But I don't want him coming home looking more beat up then I do, well, he does anyway but oh well." Tonks chuckled through her tears. She was so glad to have an aunt like Cassie to help her through this. Her mother refused to be a part of it, Bellatrix and Narcissa didn't like her, she only really had Cassie. She rubbed her stomach, "I'm thinking of naming it after my dad, if it's a girl probably something else. I hope it's like me, it'll be nice to have my child a metamorphagus.."
"Molly Weasley, dear. Now hush up and get some rest." Molly smiled, "It'll be better if you sleep, so sleep. You can stay in Ginny's room, she shouldn't mind too much. George." she snapped. He was playing with his wand.
"What? I can't have a little fun?" he asked shrugging.

"Probably because it's the last place they thought we'd look," Al speculated. "Italy would've been too obvious."
Leo hummed his agreement and played with the fingers of Lia's hand that was holding his. He was glad that she was alright, at least; he'd been worried sick when she just vanished like that. Lia could be a handful, but he genuinely loved her. He wouldn't know what to do if she died on him like his mom did...
"Alright, deal," Cassie laughed, pulling a handkerchief out of her pocket to try and clean up Nymphadora's face a little. "Now, about the name. I think Ted is a great name, and I'm sure your father would be honored...what about Sophia for a girl? Metamorphagus children are...interesting, by the way. Your hair used to turn a different color every few minutes. It scared Aurelius at first."
Pyre's eyes widened when Molly suggested sleeping. No, she had to report to her mama, or her mama would be mad at her! And she was usually so good about reporting! Ooohhh, she didn't want to disappoint her mama; she'd been working so hard to gain Marisol's trust!
"B-but...I have to write my report down for Mama," she protested, panicking a little. "A-and...Aura. Oh, God, she's not really dead is she...?"

"Hawaii would've been more preferable. We could've stayed and gotten a tan, heaven knows I need one.." Lianna said looking at her arms. She avoided laughing, she had tickleish fingers and him playing with them wasn't helping her, "Stop that tickles." she nudgued him, "I'll hold your hand but no playing with my fingers. I'm still mad that it took you that long to find me. I mean really? The first place you looked should've been the last place you think of."
Tonks chuckled, "I'd get a handful from Sophie about it, she'd be pleased I'm sure. I'm half tempted to get a pet or two to see if they can tell me what I'm having." she smiled and thought about choosing the name. She knew she'd have to talk about it with her husband if he came back, but if he didn't, and it was a boy, she already had the name picked out. For a girl? Not so much.
"Woah, woah, no need to get jumpy!" George said. "If you need something written, someone can write it for you. I'm sure Cassiopia wouldn't mind writing, but you need to sleep!" Molly insisted, "About your friend..." she nodded. She didn't know how else to say it. "The poor girl, we have her on a couch. I'm sure you can figure out what to do with her."

"Yes, I'm sure that they picked the place to hold you hostage based on your preference," Al scoffed then sobered. "We're...we're going to have to decide on whether or not to bury Aura with any honors before her dad gets here..."
Leo stopped playing with Lia's fingers and bit back tears. God...kids weren't supposed to die. Not as young as Aura. It was just wrong...
Cassie hummed softly and stepped back, holding Dora at arms' length and examining her face for a minute.
"Boy!" she proclaimed then laughed and smiled sheepishly. "Old Italian trick my mother-in-law taught me. You'd like her. She's a funny old lady."
Pyre froze and felt tears stinging at her eyes when Molly confirmed that Aura was dead. No...no. It couldn't...she couldn't...they had to be wrong! Aura couldn't be dead! She was too young to die, already!
"Sh-she was m-my cousin," she choked out. "W-we l-lived next door to each other...o-oh, God...and Z-Zoey j-just died last year..."
Zoey had been Aura's older sister; she'd died during the defense of Bari a year before. Pyre's uncle Thom was going to be a wreck when he found out...and Aura was supposed to be starting Hogwarts that year.

"I'm gonna let that one slide since you brought up my best kid friend after that." Lianna said. She held her free hand out to excuse herself. She turned in her chair and started to cry. She really wanted to hold back those tears but she couldn't. "I'll be right back, I'm just going to go... yeah.." she gave Al a weak smile, and gave Leo a kiss on the cheek. Then went out the back door to stand there and just cry. She wasn't crying like she was a twenty year old who just lost her boy friend, but it was more like she was six and had lost her puppy. She didn't screw up her face, move her hair back and scream, she just cried.
"You can tell that just by looking at my face? I thought it was because my stomach is growing like a watermelon." Tonks chuckled. At least she had family to make her feel better.
"I'm sorry dear, would you like to talk to her? Tell her body what you want her to hear?" Molly asked. "Mum, bad time.." George said.

Leo stood and followed Lia out the back door, brushing past Cassie and Tonks and forcing himself to smile apologetically over his shoulder. When he got outside, he slung an arm across Lia's shoulder and pulled her into a hug.
"Oh...mia colomba," he murmured. "Don't cry...everything will be alright."
"Oh, there are some rather large female babies," Cassie scoffed. "Oddly, they always wind up growing into rather small women."
She suspected that it was their bodies compensating. They didn't grow much to make up for being born larger than usual. That was just Cassie's belief, though; she was probably wrong. She didn't pay much attention to muggle sciences as they tried to explain things like that. She simply didn't share Aurelius' fascination with muggles.
Pyre finally broke down sobbing when she was asked that. It had been so long since the last time she cried in front of anyone; she'd been chatised for it as a child. Soldiers didn't cry, Mama had chided. She'd taken it to heart up until now.

"It's not okay! She's dead, Leo, and I caused it! I'm the one who got kidnapped and she died trying to help. It's my fault, my best friend's dead because of me and I didn't help her. You should've made sure she was safe before you came to get me and..." Lianna tried to push away. How late was it? It was so dark... Had to be sometime in the A.M. Off topic. She just needed to cry. "You can't tell me not to cry. She was my best friend! The closest thing I had to a sister, and I sat there and did nothing while she risked her life to save me. She's dead and it's all my fault..." she finally broke away and ran off into the reeds surrounding the house. She sat down and held her knees. She couldn't take it. The pain was too much.
"Ah, well then... If he's going to be like me I'm going to have to cheer up, but I can't... Not till Remus comes back. I want him to be happy about his.." Tonks smiled, "It's his too. Why can't he see how perfect this is? I mean, I love him and he loves me and now we're adding a child to the mix, it's just... perfect." She didn't know how to do this with out support.
"Oh dear, come on, you can I can go upstairs." Molly said putting an arm around the girl, "It's okay, it's all going to be okay.." she cooed.

"Lia, wait!" Leo shouted, running after her.
He finally caught up to her in the reeds and slung his arm across her shoulders again, pulling her into a tight hug and kissing her forehead.
"No, it's not your fault, mio amore," he whispered. "She wanted to come with to save you. And she'd be mad at you for crying. Don't blame yourself..."
Tears stung at his eyes as he thought about Aura's last few hours. God, he'd miss that kid. She'd been so bright, so cheerful...granted, she'd also been a damn-irritating prankster, but even that had been endearing about her. In another time, that girl would've grown up to be a terrific wife and mother.
"No! Non sarà bene ... D-dio ... Ho lasciato Elena morire! Avrei dovuto guardare fuori per lei, e lei morì! Colpa mia ... colpa mia ... E 'colpa mia e' morta!" Pyre wailed in response, breaking down in a fresh wave of tears. ((No! It won't be okay...G-god...I let Elena die! I was supposed to look out for her, and she died! My fault...my fault...It's my fault she's dead!))
Cassie looked in the direction of where Pyre had been resting when she heard the little Metamorphagus wailing about being the reason her younger cousin was dead. As she watched, Pyre's hair turned storm-cloud grey.
"Men and children never mix until the day the child is born," Cassie replied. "You should've seen your uncle Aurelius in the months leading up to Shayne's birth."
