She pouted jokingly up at him. Wait. Damn it! He was taller than her! A lot of people were, but it still sucked. She sometimes wished that she was crazily tall, like Mich; then she remembered Mich once complaining about her height getting her stared at and decided that she didn't mind being short so much. Talon was incredibly self-concious about her looks, knowing that being a quater-Veela caused a lot of guys to gravitate towards her simply because they thought she was pretty.
"I have never been in a car accident!" she replied. "I call that skill."

There was just something about this girl that kept calling him to her. It was really weird. He hadn't felt this towards anyone else in the entire world. Well, maybe that year all those Veela came for the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Wait! Was that it? Was it because she was part Veela? Well he never felt the need to actually answer that one girl, Fleur, the one time she talked to him. She didn't like him. Actually, this girl really seemed really nice, and... he didn't know. She was very pretty, unless that was the assumed Veela in her, or just his personal tastes.
"You haven't been in an accident, yet," Tristan returned with a flick of the wrist pointing at her slightly, chuckling a bit, "Who knows if I would be too much of a distraction. I might cost you your perfect record accidentally."

"Well, we won't know if your theory is true until we test it..." she mused with a laugh.
It really was very odd. She wasn't known for being the most social of Marguerite Cavaliere's grandchildren; that title probably went to her cousin, Angelina. So the fact that she was still talking to Tristan baffled her. She would have usually bowed out of the conversation and made her escape by this point with almost any other guy.

"It's a date then!" Tristan said happily.
Well, he didn't mean it in the romantic, boyfriend girlfriend way, but actually... no. He wasn't one to date anyone, no matter if Jason was always nagging on him to try and get a girlfriend. He didn't really like anyone enough to date them, unless he was going to use them and gain their trust just to throw them away later. Sure, it was mean to do that, but that was just how he learned he could survive when he was younger and lived on his own. Even with his father, he had to do things like that to get food sometimes.

"Deal!" she laughed. "But you're paying for gas."
She actually hadn't really ever gone on a real date. She'd always been busy with the war or doing some kind of work around the house or something to that effect. There just hadn't ever been time for regular teenager things, especially once she came of age. She'd only just become a teenager when she came of age, honestly. And since then, it had been one battle after another with very little time in between. She was getting tired, honestly.

"Ah darn. I thought I was going to get away with that one," Tristan joked with an over-dramatic snap of his fingers across his body, "So when will we do this?"
This was a really weird experience to Tristan. He actually liked a person, didn't want to just use them and throw them away like a good amount of people, though she was quite pretty, and felt drawn to her because of a reason he had yet to confirm. He was the type of guy who didn't have very many moments like this.

"My cousin Gabe's headed back to Italy to help out with some things next weekend, and I could probably borrow his car while he's gone as long as I don't trash it. You free?" she asked.
She was totally doing this all by ear at this point. She just hoped he wasn't one of those guys that wound up acting like an idiot around her because of her being a quarter-Veela; she couldn't stand them. She always wanted to punch them in the face!

"Yeah, I don't have any plans. It sounds like a pretty good plan to me," Tristan shrugged after thinking about any plans.
There was of course Quidditch Practice, just not next weekend. It was usually during the week anyways. Their captain preferred to have the weekends off, fortunately, unlike some captains they had in the past.

"Alright, cool! I'll see if I can't teach you how to drive," she laughed.
And as long as he didn't decide to reciprocate the favor and try to teach her to ride a broom, they would be fine. Because there was no way in hell that she was getting on a broom; those things were out to kill her! She'd watch Quidditch any day, but she'd be damned if she played it. Blame it on that irrational fear of heights.

"Perhaps in return, I could always take you out to have a drink somewhere," Tristan suggested.
He had pretty much figured offering to teach her to ride a broom would get a negative response. She had already said she was scared of heights, and while Tristan was sure she could break that fear, suggesting a broom ride wouldn't be the best way to go about breaking it, if Tristan ever felt hte need to help her break it of course. Right now, he just felt everyone had their fears and heights was hers.

"I hope you mean a soda," she laughed. "I'm strongly Catholic; my grandmother would kill me if I drank."
At least he hadn't suggested riding a broom. That was a relief. It had been brought up in the past and lead to the guy having a door slammed in his face. She didn't care to repeat the incident with Tristan; she was really starting to like him...a lot.

"Well, I was meaning more like butterbeer, but soda is fine as well," Tristan stated.
So when did he start becoming the kind of guy who would compromise for someone else? He had never done that for Jason either. He supposed it didn't matter. He just felt like he wanted to get closer to her. Maybe it was because he really just wanted someone to be there for him, or he was feeling lonely lately, or something. Plus, he really did like Talon.

"Ah! I know this place in the Italian District that has these awesome sodas that taste like cupcakes!" she recalled, smiling at the thought. It was down the street from her Aunt Celesta's gelatto place.
She had guessed from the way he'd said what he'd meant that Tristan wasn't the type that usually made compromises. She thought it was sweet that he'd done that for her. She really didn't quite understand why she was so willing to let an outsider into the Italian District; she'd usually get angry if anyone did that. She wanted to get closer to him, though. Maybe she was lonely; maybe it was something else. Did that really matter, though?

"Soda that tastes like... cupcakes?" Tristan asked unsure of whether that would be good or not. He hadn't ever tried it before, but if she thought it was good, he might as well give it a try.
Tristan hoped that she liked him as well. From the way the conversation was going, it seemed like she did. It was just that he couldn't read that well. It was really odd because he supposed he should be able to read her like a book, but it wasn't that easy. He actually had to talk to her to get the gist of what kind person she was. Really, it was weird to Tristan because he almost always was able to read everyone. Maybe he was blinded by something, or maybe she was just good at hiding it all.

"Yeah! It's awesome!" she replied excitedly. "And vanilla bean! Haha, Italians are weird, so of course we don't have normal soda flavors."
Talon was a good liar. She had to be to be in Slytherin, and she had to be to be a Cavaliere. She was as genuine with him as she could be with any outsider, but that meant very little. She wouldn't fully trust him until he proved that she could, and until then, she would continue to be only partially genuine with him. She hoped that he didn't mind her being so cautious.
